Another monster! And another one of my favorites. It looks like I wasn’t the only who admired this guy because he took first place.

Here is the list of winners.

[12 May 2012] Houston Art Car Parade

I think the side says “Sharpstown International,” referring to, I assume, the school. There were a bunch of cars designed by schools, but I thought this one was the most creative. It looks like a mixture between a lion dance lion and a psychedelic Wild Thing.

A couple of my favorite cars. I don’t know what the bronze one is made out of, but the silver one is covered in spoons!

This was a pretty cool car. Unfortunately, shortly after I took the picture, its front end started smoking, deposited a rusty puddle on the road, and had to sit out for the rest of the parade.

Perhaps not the most outrageous car out there, but beautifully done.

[12 May 2012] Houston Art Car Parade

This was the most elaborate car I was able to see.

I’ll call this the sculptural set.

Some cool notes about these cars:

  1. That peacock tail moved up and down.
  2. It looks like that Mustang got into a wreck at some point and instead of fixing the car, they made those yellow things look like they were bursting out of the messed up areas.
  3. Giant owl.
  4. Giant flower, naturally. I like how those guys sit so high up.
  5. I’m guessing these are apocalypse horses? The car also neighed the entire time. Pretty cool in passing, but I can only imagine how annoying that would be for the people in and around the car.
  6. Freebirds Burritos car. Fuddrucker’s also had a car that was pretty neat.
  7. This was actually one of my favorite cars, despite being kind of plain in comparison.
  8. One of several Cure cars.
  9. I have no idea what’s going on here.
  10. Or what this is supposed to be. Cool looking, though.

Not really sure how to categorize these. “Understated?” In the third picture, there’s an older gentleman hanging out of the window wearing a lovely hat and bikini top made out of silk flower petals.

These were rather humorous.

  1. The poor guy had to pull that giant Radio Flyer by himself!
  2. I think this is a sock monkey. There was another sock monkey car but my battery had died by then.
  3. Ambulance, complete with ambulance chaser.
  4. A Time Machine, covered in watches and old Time Magazine covers.
  5. A snail!
  6. Pink furry kitty.
  7. A pool toy car. I don’t think they were permanently attached to the car.
  8. This car was covered in pieces of mirror and aptly named “Shattered Vanity.” I also like how the license plate is “MIR MIR.”

I attempted to group the photos into loose categories. This collection is Texas/Southern cars.
