A captivating collection of foreign stamps. Wish I could post more, but the others came out grainy/blurry. Will and I spent a lot of time looking at stamps from various countries. It probably would have taken us a full day to look at all of them! Their storage/display system was interesting, like thin vertical cabinets you pull out of the wall.

This is awesome! I guess this is marketed to kids, but I can’t imagine them having the staying power to actually complete this or end up with a product that even remotely looks like the box.
And only in Japan would you trust kids to play with sodium alginate/sodium citrate/calcium chloride to make the “roe.”

I ordered one of Will’s Xmas presents from a store in Japan. It looks like they used some sales ads as padding. I love the variety of items and how bold and graphic they look. The quality of the printing and paper (at least magazine quality) is amazing as well. This is typically something you would only look at for a few minutes and then throw away, yet they still put in the time and effort to make it look and feel good.
One of the things I really enjoyed about living in Paris was that I got to experience the mundane trivialities of everyday life. I was a tourist, but I was also a resident shopping at the supermarket, buying a baguette at my local boulangerie, and browsing CDs at FNAC. By living there you learn not only the manufactured facade of the culture, but the gears that make the culture tick. These ads offer the barest insight into the workings of Japan. I find them fascinating.
