My shadow, submerged.

One of my favorite places to visit. I wonder what the water level is during this drought.

I nominate this post for “Most Inadvertently Funny.” What is even going on in these pictures? It’s like the bed ate an Eat Me Cake and is now skimming the ceiling. I love how their reason for selling the bed is because it’s too big for their house. I’d have to agree. Although, I probably would have measured before attempting to finagle that thing inside.

Apartment Therapy posts The Daily Scavenger, which highlights awesome craigslist furniture finds. I was excited because they recently started linking to posts in the South. Unfortunately, most of the Texas links are from Austin, a few are from Dallas, and they never have any links from Houston.

Houston’s not exactly the “stylish” city of Texas, but it is pretty cosmopolitan. You’d think there would be some cool to stuff to buy. Every once in a while I wander over to craigslist to see if there’s anything interesting. And every time I’m disappointed, inundated with old IKEA dressers, hideous musty end tables from the ’90s, and super traditional dining room sets from Ashley Furniture.

But not today! Today I found this hand carved horse “dinging” table set! I can’t say it’s my style, but it sure made my day. I kind of wish I had a ton of extra money and a spare house, because I would totally buy this in a, “This dining table set completes my life,” sort of way.

I know these pools were created by the flow of water, but sometimes I like to pretend they’re the remnants of dinosaur footprints.

Instead of going out to the gardens today, we took the kids to the playground to work out their abundance of energy. Kids come up with the weirdest games. One of the girls shouted out to the others, “¿Quién quiere jugar ‘Zombies’?” (Who wants to play ‘Zombies’?) A bunch of hands shot up, most of them belonging to girls. I couldn’t figure out the rules of the game; it seemed like ‘Zombies’ consisted of them chasing after each other and then dragging a couple of their lifeless bodies into the playground tunnels. When I was in elementary school we played Babysitter’s Club, House, Doctor, or Restaurant, so I found their game to be bizarre.

It seems somewhat fitting because last night my family and Will’s family got together for dinner and the subject of the popularity of zombies came up for discussion. Despite a rather lengthy dialogue, none of us could figure out why zombies have infected all facets of society. It seems not even the imaginative brains of elementary school girls have been spared.

I decided not to volunteer today because I woke up with a sore throat and post-nasal drip. If I had to guess how I contracted my cold, I’d say it was probably from a yellow candy heart proffered to me by a small palm with questionable hygiene. The owner of the palm was insistent that I eat it and smiled happily when I did. If I had known then that I would get sick (assuming that was the cause), I still would have eaten it. It was only a matter of time before I got sick after being around young kids for a period of time. Besides, it said “LOVE YOU,” so how could I refuse?
